Boosted by a remarkable 18.7% increase in sales during the COVID-19 lockdown, the organic market continues to show sustained growth and is set to exceed?expectations, hitting the £2.6bn mark by the end of 2020. It seems that more consumers chose organic during the pandemic, as the transparency, integrity and sustainability that organic can offer has given consumers peace of mind at a time?when health and safety are priorities, helping to expedite already changing shopping?behaviours and boost organic sales.

Organic sales through Independent retail is still outpacing the multiples, with a 6.5%?increase, proving that specialist knowledge and advice coupled with a choice of top?quality organic brands is key to driving the success of this sector. Organic brands?such as Biona, Clearspring and Pukka are leading the way, highlighting that products?which offer additional benefits such as being vegan, free-from or fermented are?even more appealing to this consumer. Whilst a massive 82% of independent shops?surveyed by Soil Association Certification were focusing on zero waste, driven by?consumer demand to reduce packaging.
The ‘healthy for me, healthy for the planet’ attitude also extends to the organic beauty?and wellbeing market. Consumers are searching for trustworthy certified organic?beauty brands and suppliers and manufacturers are responding to this demand, with?an impressive 23% year on year growth in the number of certified organic beauty?products that are now on offer.
